Frequently Asked Questions
Lacrosse is played year round. The Junior Raiders provide programs in Fall, Spring and Summer:
- FALL: Our season starts in September and goes through November.
- SPRING: Spring is the primary season and runs from February through May.
- WINTER: We also provide indoor options (box lacrosse) for the winter time.
- SUMMER: During the summer we host several camps and clinics, as well as Select teams will play in various tournaments.
Each player needs to come to practice with the following equipment: Helmet, shoulder pads, elbow/arm pads, gloves, stick, mouth guard, and an athletic cup. A uniform will be provided. To learn more click on the "New" tab on our website. If you are a first-time player, we encourage you to purchase your equipment at a local store vs. online to ensure the fit of the equipment.
Please note: Players cannot practice or play in a game without all of the equipment listed above. There are no exceptions.
Teams are split up by age:
- U9: 2nd and 3rd grades
- U11: 4th and 5th grades
- U13: 6th and 7th grades
- U15: 8th grade
At the U13 and U15 levels, there is a recreational team and select team. Tryouts for the select team are held in August.
We work hard to grow and bring new players into our program. We seek to provide clear expectations regarding the purpose of our recreational and select program.
We want both programs to be fun and engaging and most importantly on point for our players and families. Both programs have value and the point is to ensure the right player is in the right system to develop at a pace that is comfortable, challenging and fun.
Recreational lacrosse is offered to develop the player regardless of experience or skill level. Creating strong fundamentals and an appreciation of the game is the focus – building technique, game skills and game knowledge is core to the program. Recreational lacrosse is offered at all levels for all seasons (U-9 through U-15) dependent on player numbers to fill teams.
Select lacrosse is competitive lacrosse for advanced and skilled players. Improving critical skills, game strategy and measuring progress by winning games and tournaments is a priority. The Select team players tryout and are chosen by a panel including our Junior Raider lacrosse coaches and High School Varsity coaches. Select lacrosse is offered in Spring and Summer seasons for our sixth and seventh graders (Junior Select) and eighth graders (Senior Select).
Registration fees vary throughout the year based on the programs offered. Along with the registration fees each player must also register each year with US Lacrosse which is a $25-$40 fee.
We determine the registration fees by looking at the league's costs and the number of participants. The fee covers referees and officials, field fees, uniforms, team equipment (goalie equipment, goals, nets, cones, balls etc.), medical kits, insurance, organization membership to U.S. Lacrosse, and tournament fees.
Our games are split between "home" and "away" and away games are usually within the Alpharetta area.
Our coaches are responsible for communicating with their teams and use the TeamSnap app as a way to schedule games, communicate with parents and players and keep track of statistics and other key messages. When you register, we ask that you provide the contact information relevant for your child so that all responsible parties are informed and updated on a regular basis.
